The National Museum Prague, or Národní muzeum in Czech, is the largest museum in the Czech Republic. The museum, established in 1818, exhibits an extensive collection of over 14 million items associated with the country’s history, culture, and natural sciences in several buildings.
The National Museum Prague’s main building is located in central Prague next to Wenceslas Square. It was constructed in a splendid neo-renaissance style by Czech architect Josef Schulz between 1885 and 1891 and was declared a national cultural monument in 1962.
There are many permanent exhibitions for you to explore at the National Museum Prague. Among the museum’s collections, you’ll find the largest collection of insects and the largest collection of fossils in the Czech Republic. Some of the museum’s items date back billions of years.
Make sure to budget some time to admire the National Museum Prague’s impressive interior design. You can also enjoy a panoramic view of Prague from the building’s dome!
