Kurzporträt Zamosc

Founded in the 16th century, Zamosc lies around 90 kilometres in the south of Lublin and on the trading route which connects northern and western Europe with the Black Sea. When it was founded, the Paduan architect Bernardo Morando implemented its modern design, predominated by Italian architecture. The architecture and especially the Great Market Square give the impression to travel back in time and space. People even would call the city “The pearl of the Renaissance” or even directly “Padua of the North”. In 1992, the historical centre of the city was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site. Possibly, the most famous citizen was Rosa Luxemburg who was born in Zamosc.
